Berlin–Tokyo, published by the Japanese-German Center Berlin surveys two centuries of relations between Berlin and Tokyo. The main objective of the design was to create a balance between the Japanese scripts kanji, hiragana, and katakana and the Latin alphabet. They were deliberately treated differently to allow for good readability of Japanese and German in their respective sections of the page. The result is a flexible layout principle in which one language is not subordinated to the other.
